Press Releases:
Office of Tourism Announces Oahe Days as Great Event
PIERRE, S.D. – Oahe Days Arts Festival, June 20-22, has been
selected by the South Dakota Office of Tourism as one of the
five events in the 2008 Great Events campaign. The other
events include: Czech Days, June 19-21 in Tabor; Festival of
Presidents, June 27-28 in Rapid City; Mickelson Trail Trek,
Sept. 19-21 in Black Hills; and Hill City Western Heritage
Festival, Sept. 20-21 in Hill City.
“We selected Oahe Days for the 2008 Great Events campaign
because of its potential for growth and to celebrate
Pierre’s heritage on the Missouri River,” said Richard Benda,
secretary, South Dakota Department of Tourism and State
Development. “Oahe Days is a great family-friendly event in
central South Dakota.”
The 2008 Great Events were selected based on visitor appeal,
growth potential and length of the event. The selection
process includes an application and proposal, submitted by
event coordinators for consideration by the South Dakota
Office of Tourism.
The Office of Tourism provides assistance to event
coordinators and supports promotional efforts for designated
events in order to boost visitor spending and increase the
economic impact in host communities.
The 2008 Great Events campaign is part of Goal 1 of the 2010
initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota. The
Office of Tourism serves under the direction of Richard
Benda, Secretary of the Department of Tourism and State
Development. |
